Full disclosure – I’m not a foodie, but everybody loves food pics, right?!  Who can say no to these oh-so-cute macarons?!  [Spoiler alert!  They are for macaron ice cream sandwiches.]

Anyways, we’ll save dessert for last.  Sorry!  Now, let’s get into the food.

Prank is a bar in Downtown LA, and after a long day at the outlet malls, we headed back to the hotel and wanted something to eat within walking distance.  We found Prank about two blocks away and decided to check it out.  It was a tiny bar with indoor and outdoor seating.  There was also some live music inside, so we thought why not?  In case, you’re wondering…yes, I eat salad while on vacation!  I tend to lean towards healthier meals both at home and away.

I got their ‘Chopped Salad’ which was HUGE and really filling.  I loved the tomatoes and avocado!  The chickpeas were also a very interesting addition, but they were really good too 🙂  This was one of my favorite salads on the trip!

I wasn’t the only crazy person who ordered a salad – HAHA!  With nectarines and strawberries, this was their summer salad (I can’t remember exactly what it was called, and it’s not on their online menu!).  Nectarines and strawberries are my fave, so I’m actually surprised this wasn’t my pick!

In my previous post ‘Sightseeing in LA‘, I mentioned visiting the La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA.  We got there around lunch time, so we headed straight to LACMA’s cafeteria.  Aside from the burgers and (I think) pizza, that you could order, they also had some prepackaged meals and a salad bar.  I’m not a fan of wasting food, and I don’t really eat big meals, so I hit up the salad bar for a more reasonable meal portion.

By the way this pasta salad was really good.  🙂

Goshen Cuisine

Poke bowls are a huge thing right now!  In a Yelp search prior to the trip, I searched restaurants and on every single results page I saw at least one or two poke bowl restaurants.  OK, being from Hawai’i and having access to poke bowls whenever I want them, I was really trying to stay away from them on the trip.  But as you’ll see below, I did end up getting one.  You could also order sushi burritos from Goshen, too!  Those are always cool.  *thumbs up*

This is the Harbor Bowl – ahi [tuna], tamago [egg], ocean salad, corn, imitation crab and red onions, all over a bed of Romaine lettuce and rice at the bottom!  I totally forgot there was rice in there and found it later – it was a great surprise!  🙂

Eel of Fortune, cute name, right?  Unagi [eel], avocado, corn, imitation crab, ocean salad, tamago [egg], and red onions, also on Romaine lettuce with rice.

These bowls are pretty pricey, but come in large portions.  If you usually eat smaller portions it might be a good idea to share with someone.  I could just about finish half of mine and felt bad wasting!  🙁

Simply Salads

Yes, I know what you’re thinking – why does this girl keep eating salad on her vacation?!  That’s just how I do it, OK?!  😛

Simply Salads is well…self explanatory of the name, they’re a salad place!  You can also get their salads in a wrap.  Order off their preset menu, or build your own.  They have a very unique way of chopping up your salad before serving it to you – I don’t know what it is, but basically it’s a double blade tool that they use.

The Downtown Cobb – Romaine lettuce, roasted turkey breast, bacon, grape tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, cheddar, and avocado with honey mustard dressing.   And in the wrap version, see below.

Le Pain Quotidien

At the Americana at Brand [mentioned in my previous post ‘The Best Shopping in LA!‘], we stopped into Le Pain Quotidien for a quick brunch.  It’s a bakery that has a variety of breads, jams and other breakfast/brunch options.  It was a cute little restaurant.  Here’s their dragon fruit smoothie bowl.

Snow Monster

A recommendation from a friend, we made a stop in Koreatown to find Snow Monster.  Their known for boba drinks and macaron ice cream sandwiches.  Pick your macaron shell and ice cream flavor, and they will make your custom sandwich 🙂  Almost too cute to eat!

There are cool glass cups for purchase either in mason jar type style or this lightbulb shape that I picked up.  I really just wanted the jar, so I bought it empty and wrapped it up in my suitcase.  It made it home safely!

Room Service at the Luxe City Center Hotel

Sometimes on vacation, you just get lazy and want to order room service.  Nothing wrong with that!  Pork belly tacos and bao burger!  This burger was actually really delicious, and I’m not one who typically orders burgers.  Fries were also really good!  *thumbs up*  The only downside is…honestly, the price for room service!!  LOL
